About this blog

Increasingly, we are bombarded with lies, on all manner of topics. The father of lies is hard at work these days, is he not? And how many times have you heard someone say (or you yourself thought) - what else are they lying to us about?

My aim here is to speak biblical truth - as it relates to spiritual life, community life and current events, personal life and health - and topics you may suggest, as well. Look for a new post every Monday!

A word about subscriptions

My weekly post is free, and I hope to keep it that way. But if you appreciate my work, I would be deeply grateful for your financial support as well. The subscription button below will give you some options!

You should know who’s doing the speaking at She Speaks Truth - here’s a little about me:

I like the photo above because it reminds me of two truths – one, that even in hard places life can thrive. Two, God created a beautiful world that we’re privileged to enjoy. Here’s a little more about me.

As a very young child I believed in Jesus, that He was God, and although my understanding wouldn’t mature much beyond that for many years, I believe He had His hand on me – because Jesus Himself said that little children can believe (Matthew 18:6). I was interested in the Bible and I liked “following the rules” as I saw them, but it wasn’t until I finally woke up – far later in my life than it should have been – that I embraced the truly transformative gift of salvation and faith – which comes with sorrowful repentance for sin and a desire to follow Him as Lord.

Sadly, due to my interest in checking things off my “Christian” list instead of pursuing life in the Spirit, I missed so much, including the opportunity to model a vibrant and exciting faith adventure for my kids.

But - He is merciful and gracious and did not give up on me. I couldn’t even tell you for sure the exact moment that Spirit-induced conversion transformation really started. All I know is that as He gently led me to begin seeking Him more intimately and serving Him more purposefully, He changed me.

So in the time I have left, my mission is to boldly proclaim Him as the Lord worth following – the Remover of sin and shame, the Giver of peace and joy, the Leader of our Kingdom adventure, and yes, the gracious Guarantor of eternal life in heaven dwelling with Him. The God who loved me with a steadfast, sacrificial love when I was His enemy.

And Jesus didn’t die only to save us from hell. He died to save us from our bondage to sin and fill us with abundant life now. That life comes via His love – which, on a practical level, also helps us love and serve Him too. We literally need God to help us love God. We need Him to help us deliberately run toward Him. And how we train for that pursuit is to fuel ourselves with the power of God’s Word.

That is my passion and privilege now, to delve ever deeper into His Word to know and serve Him better. As a longtime writer – once a TV news writer/producer, then a long season as a stay-at-home mom where I wrote and edited a regional homeschool monthly, then a career leading communications for a major university – I’m now led to use my gifts to share about this Kingdom life, in this time of increasing challenges and a world that seems to be powered on falsehoods.

I am grateful to many people for helping me see God and His Word more clearly. Some of them I’ve never met personally…

  • John MacArthur – his devotion to Biblical teaching is perhaps unparalleled in my lifetime – his resources are literally a godsend – gty.org (also, this is my favorite Bible ever)

  • Kyle Idleman – another favorite author – I especially recommend his books Not a Fan and One at a Time

  • Del Tackett – his Truth Project lays the foundation, and his Engagement Project sends us out to fulfill our royal duties in the Kingdom. Plus, his website has a fantastic series of studies on the names and attributes of God – deltackett.com

  • Francis Chan – his book Crazy Love helped wake me up and changed my life

  • Joel Rosenberg – his book The Invested Life helped me see the importance of being discipled and discipling others, as well as the critical role of in-home hospitality

…and some are face-to-face friends (or used to be face-to-face – thanks technology for letting us stay in touch):

  • Vince Gunn – a friend gifted with his own writing abilities, who graciously and unfailingly shares his wisdom with me when asked

  • Sam Evans and Roger Haber – two wonderful pastors whose insights I am always happy to receive (and who happen to share a birthday, just one year apart)

  • Trey Graham – the pastor who encouraged me to start writing about God

  • And of course the friends and family whose affirmation and support are a bedrock. Kudos especially to my husband Brad who is forced to read most everything I write and offers helpful insights and a check on my tendency to use exclamation marks (!) My daughter Bri is my blog consultant – although she’s very busy serving as the producer of one of the most popular and theologically sound podcasts/broadcasts out there today. I occasionally offer a guest post from Bri’s unique perspective – she’s also a former missionary to the Middle East.

I’m also passionate about a few other topics as they relate to our lives as women, including homemaking, organization, time management, educating children, current events/politics, media/books, and health and wellness – as someone who has lived much of her life doing the wrong things in that arena, I’m on a journey back to health myself. This blog aims to uncover truth on all those topics.

Finally, a couple quick housekeeping notes:

  • I recently switched my favorite Bible translation and am now using the Legacy Standard Bible. All Scripture quoted is from that, unless otherwise indicated.

  • I am an Amazon affiliate, so books or products I recommend will be linked to my account (like the books linked above). If you’re going to purchase one of them, please use the links you find here on my Substack, because I’ll get a small percentage, and you won’t pay anything extra. It’s a great way to support my work. Of course being a paid subscriber is the best way!

Thank you for being here!

PS - Please share with friends, too, or any women you know who would appreciate the encouragement of a clear perspective on biblical thinking as the days grow more confusing and chaotic.
