I've been convinced, this past year, of the value of circadian living — that is, the health benefits of things like rising daily with sun, or eating seasonally and locally. (More on that to come, but you can read about how the sun and light help us here and here.)
And that’s why this January 1, for the first time in my life, I am not making a fresh start, starting over, or even making resolutions. I do recognize that it is a new year, a clean slate, but I consider this only one of several opportunities throughout the year to tweak our habits and change things for the better. (I find the beginning of spring to be one of the best times to start something new, for instance.)
I also don’t generally read my Bible through in a year, starting January 1 or any other day. For me that never worked as it became more about checking off that day’s reading than giving His Word my full attention.
So on this last day of 2024, I’d just like to share a few posts from this past year that offer quite a few ideas about how to offer God both more time and better attention — perhaps the best resolution any of us can make, any day of the year.
First — if you’re thinking about re-working your schedule, make sure you are…
Creating space for God
God – He who chose us before we existed, He who wrote our names in the Lamb’s Book of Life, He who loves us with an unimaginably rich love – He is the One who created space for us when He created the world. And now this infinite, omnipotent God invites us into His very throne room, to talk and listen. He invites us to feast on His word, and experience H…
The post linked above provided the “why” - why we only thrive when we spend time with Him, along with some practical helps for getting started. This next one offers some solid ideas on getting into the Word with reading, study, memorization, meditating on Him, and prayer life…
Quiet Time 101
In one of my early posts, I talked about the immense privilege we have to commune with the living Creator… the example Christ set for this when He was a man… and some practical tips to get started in this crucial discipline. I didn’t talk a lot about what to do during those times, though, and so I want to get very practical here.
Finally, a post with some ideas especially for women, to make your God time your most-anticipated time each day…
A basket of God
As busy women — especially with children at home — it is far too easy to miss our time with God. Every disciple of Jesus needs this time as I wrote about here… and here, where I offered more practical planning for this crucial soul-building time.
So if you are of a mind to kick off the new year with some new habits — make them the most valuable habits. The habits that transform you and your life. The habits that bring you into His presence every day of the year.
Happy New Year, readers! I appreciate each and every one of you, and pray an abundance of His presence for all of you in 2025. Let’s grow together.
