If you're relieved and delighted by this week's historic election results, you have a few people to thank. God, first of all, who granted us a reprieve from the spiraling descent into evil that the Democrats were offering. I would also argue that RFK helped forge part of Trump's remarkable coalition of interests who came together to beat the elite institutional Left. And part of that "Make America Healthy Again" coalition is undoubtedly the author of today's featured book, Good Energy: The Surprising Connection Between Metabolism and Limitless Health.
Dr. Casey Means, along with her brother Calley, hit the talk show circuit earlier this year to promote their new book which lays out a powerful argument that healthwise, we've been doing it all wrong. I first "met" Dr. Means when she was a guest on Relatable with Allie Beth Stuckey, the show my daughter produces. (You can watch that interview here.) She and Calley have since achieved more fame with appearances on Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly and Joe Rogan. In both those cases, many left-leaners criticized, unfollowed, and cancelled them, apparently for the crime of sharing health information with nazis and garbage people (like you and me, my friends).
Nevertheless they have persevered in their joint mission, which is to promote all that is good that we are not doing:
Fueling our bodies with the best nutrition
Respecting our biological clocks (circadian rhythms, light, sleep, meal timing)
Maximizing movement, using temperature changes, and minimizing toxins for better health
All of the above is Casey's department, as a Stanford-trained medical doctor who rose quickly through the ranks of her peers — only to have a epiphany as she realized her profession was not really in the healing business. In a feat of remarkable bravery, she walked away from her lucrative career to pursue helping people actually achieve health. Her book sums up what she's found effective for that.
Her brother's contribution is that as a lobbyist who worked with Big Pharma, he saw how the sausage was made. Between them they have insider insight into what makes America's Big Ag/Big Food/Big Pharma so toxic to more and more of us every day. And what's more, in this book they offer actionable solutions that anyone can use to take back their health.
I want to just regurgitate everything this book says but you really MUST read this yourself. I will share three things Dr. Means recommends that stop eating:
Seed oils (vegetable oil, canola oil, corn oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil, cottonseed oil, grapeseed oil, rice bran oil) — these are highly processed and chemically treated and should not be consumed by humans... you're better off with olive, avocado or coconut oil, or better yet animal fat like butter, ghee, tallow, etc. If Trump/RFK can convince McDonald's to cook their fries in beef tallow again instead of highly processed seed oil the way they do now — that would be one great accomplishment!
Refined sugar — the vast majority of Americans struggle with blood sugar issues due to too many carbs and sugars... a good start is simply eliminating all foods with added sugars of any kind (i.e. all processed foods — the stuff in bags and boxes, with ingredients you can't find in a normal kitchen)
Refined flour — stripped of nutrients and highly sprayed with pesticides, our flour is messed up. Some believe that most "gluten-sensitive" people are actually sensitive to the toxins in our flour. Ancient grains or alternative flours (almond flour for instance) might be good substitutes if you want to bake.
But there is SO MUCH MORE here to thoughtfully consider, then implement. If you're feeding a family, it's even more imperative to buy or borrow this book ASAP. Dr. Means argues passionately for a return to cooking real whole foods for our families, the more often the better. And we all know how valuable sitting down together for meals can be for our psychological and emotional health. Win win!
Caveat: The Means siblings are not coming at this from a Christian perspective. Like most health influencers, they fully recognize a spiritual component to health, and counsel people to practice gratitude, for instance. They are missing, however, Who we are to thank.
I've said this before — it is amazing to me that people who are very tuned into the amazing correlation between our bodies and the world God made for those bodies to inhabit — in other words, the people who see how healthy sunlight and fresh air and whole clean foods are for our bodies — will often refer to the remarkable design of those bodies. But they generally don't acknowledge the Designer.
Nevertheless there is great wisdom in Good Energy and countless people have seen significant health improvements by integrating the book's principles into their practices. Highly recommended! You can also follow Dr. Casey Means and Calley Means for up to date health and medical freedom content:
